I'm doing my 5th full IM this year – IMCA and chose Coach Steve's plan as I liked the longer duration and the 50+ training plan – 2 weeks hard, 1 lighter week. I had a complication tho as I'm doing the St George 70.3 WC in mid Sept then have 2.5 weeks of travel between St George and IMCA. Coach Steve came up with a revised plan that allowed for my race, recovery, travel and then enough key workouts to be ready for IMCA.
A great job, very responsive and I highly recommend him as a Coach!
Very happy with the program so far and will definitely benefit from the structured swim sessions
I couldn't recommend Smart Endurance Solutions more highly. I am currently undertaking their over 50's HR based intermediate ironman training plan after having completed their base building/maintenance plan earlier in the year. I have found both plans to be enjoyable , rewarding and have seen fantastic results. Progress has been steady and each stage has fitted my age and fitness profile perfectly. I have found communication and advice extremely helpful.
Very thankful to Steve for putting together a plan for me to help make sure I’m ready to go for Ironman Cork 2022! Definitely come to Steve if you’re looking for something similar. The turnaround time was super quick and the plan is very thorough. Couldn’t recommend more highly.
I joined the program with some sort of hesitation from deviating from my current functional program I follow.
But since joining the SES program my fitness has increased like never before! My body has reacted really well and I can’t wait to see the results on race day.
Steve has been great and made the program super clear and accessible through the online platform.
5 stars from me
I have done 2 Ironman races and both occasions I have used Ironman training plans from Coach Steve.
His plans are well thought out and are crafted to fit into the hectic schedule of family life while at the same time getting you fit and ready to take on the race. I found Coach Steve very obliging and helpful whenever I had questions or just needed a little encouragement.
The biggest compliment I can pay is that I’ll be back to him when planning another Ironman.
I’m writing this review as a 3-day old IRONMAN. And I did it with the help of a “46 weeks Beginner Ironman plan”. Before starting the plan I had done sub 4h marathon but I had zero racing or even training experience in swimming and biking. When I was choosing my plan I wrote for several online couches with my questions and I liked Steve’s answers the most. I didn’t regret choosing his plan a single time. Steve answered all the questions that I had during the training, he also adjusted the plan to fit my race day(my race was almost a month earlier than I have planned). The training plan wasn’t easy but what else can you expect when training for Ironman? Be prepared that weekends will be tough but they will make YOU tough as well. I was confident before the race that I will finish it. Thank you, Steve, for making my dream come true!
I love Steve’s triathlon training plan. It is well structured plan, offering instruction and tips in the swim, bike and run. However, I found that the best part is the support during the plan that I received by Steve. Always ready to answer any questions…
Hi Coach Steve,
I did the marathon in Paris and I did a 22’ pb 😊
Thanks for putting together this plan and all the support you have given.
Thanks,
Andi
I am using coach Steve's intermediate 20 week plan to prepare for this season. Every session is super easy to follow, when loaded into TrainingPeaks they sync with my watch which is great! If I do have a question I can email Steve, and he's always quick to respond with clarifications and encouragement :-). My power has increased on the bike, and I have PB'd a local 10k race already in the build up to the season. Highly recommend getting one of these plans. I am going get a70.3 plan next
I’m 11 weeks into my 46 weeks Beginner Ironman plan. This is my first try at training for a triathlon. What I liked even before purchasing this plan is that I could write an email for coach Steve and get answers for all my concerns. At the time I was in ~4h marathon shape, had some past experience in cycling, and almost no experience in swimming, so we decided that a Beginner plan will suit me the best. At first, it felt that running volume is really low and I’m detraining in my strongest triathlon discipline but in few weeks when cycling volume ramped up those thoughts disappeared. Actually, having less running and more cycling keeps me away from running injuries and I’m faster now than I ever was. I’m probably not in marathon shape anymore but there are 35 weeks of the plan left with plenty of 20+km long runs. Another thing that I liked is tests for HR zones for cycling and running. Finally! Finally, I’m training in zones that i feel are right. In the past, I’ve recalculated my zones using different approaches at least 5 times and they always felt off. Now I feel that I’m really training in the zone that workout prescribes. Swimming. I can’t really talk about that because I’ve only swum for the first few weeks of the plan then due to quarantine all pools were closed, I’ve switched to strength and mobility workouts instead. Last thing. Coach Steve quickly answers all my questions, e.g. what to do when the pool closes, what is the best approach to brick workout, and so on. Overall I feel confident that following this plan I will be an Ironman finisher.
I searched through a number of training programmes on Training Peaks and was delighted I chose Coach Steve and Smart Endurance Solutions.
From a long time absence away from triathlon, I wanted something that would get me up to date without having to think too hard, and that would also adapt to my own development.
So far it has challenged me without being over-faced. The Facebook community and ability to email Coach Steve is a really nice extra for such a good value package.
