For athletes seriously interested in potentially employing my coaching services – I follow a three step process
1) Athletes will fill out a short questionnaire in advance of any conversation/meeting – the purpose of which to get a rough assessment of their current ability/training regime/race experience to date and their goals for the upcoming season.
2) I will have either a skype or face2face meeting [location dependent – am based in Dublin] with the athlete to talk through the SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opps, Threats) in relation to their target A and B goals – using the questionnaire to guide us.
This frank discussion will provide the following at a minimum
framework race schedule in terms of A and B goal,
skeleton proposed weekly training structure week that will be mapped to the athletes individual availability/constraints,
alignment of athletes/coaches expectations on how we will work together over the period of the program.
3) If all in agreement, we as a team will agree the kick off date, initial swim/cycle/run analysis sessions as required and start to push you towards achieving your goals

I’m writing this review as a 3-day old IRONMAN. And I did it with the help of a “46 weeks Beginner Ironman plan”. Before starting the plan I had done sub 4h marathon but I had zero racing or even training experience in swimming and biking. When I was choosing my plan I wrote for several online couches with my questions and I liked Steve’s answers the most. I didn’t regret choosing his plan a single time. Steve answered all the questions that I had during the training, he also adjusted the plan to fit my race day(my race was almost a month earlier than I have planned). The training plan wasn’t easy but what else can you expect when training for Ironman? Be prepared that weekends will be tough but they will make YOU tough as well. I was confident before the race that I will finish it. Thank you, Steve, for making my dream come true!
I bought the 24 week Olympic training plan and it has exceeded my expectations.
Not only are the workouts clearly defined in Training Peaks with usefully notes, but the additional support via email has been excellent. Any issue or concern I had was quickly responded to with a helpful answer.
I bought the plan with hopes of a PB and ended up knocking 10% off my overall time 🙂
I found Steve’s plans on Training Peaks as I was looking for an experienced and quality coach after signing up to my first Ironman. I was delighted the level of service I received. The amount of detail he included was exactly what I was looking for. Its extremely comprehensive and nothing is left to chance. He was very responsive and attentive (I had about a million questions), with nothing being too much trouble. Training went to plan and I was delighted with the time I achieved. Thanks Steve!
I purchased the Beginner Ironman 22 week (50yrs+) plan that included email access to Coach. So far I am very pleased with this heart rate based plan. I was also pleased to see a training plan designed for my particular age group. This plan helps greatly to organize my weekly workouts. And if you have a Garmin Forerunner 935 watch, this plan can be synced to Garmin app which makes it even simpler to keep track! Join the Facebook group to get your questions answered is an awesome feature!
Made the most of lockdown with your base training plan and emailed advice – coming out the other side stronger and faster (on bike and run anyhow!) – just need to work out my race schedule for next year but I will be in touch for a full plan! Thanks Steve
I purchased a plan on TrainingPeaks from Steve for my first Ironman race coming up later this year and so far am very impressed with its structure, variety, and detail. Steve has also been very quick to respond to any queries or questions I have. I will definitely be recommending him to friends looking for good quality, structured coaching
Switched over to a smartensurdance plan for my next upcoming IM and so far it has been night and day with other plans. Two biggest benefits so far are firstly the zone and output effort variations are keeping me fresh and continuously improving my metrics while allowing recovery at precise times, and secondly it has taken all of the guess work out of my mind as the analysis provided in the scheduled trainings are granular in design yet simple to follow and my gains very traceable.
I completed my first 70.3 this week. Thank you so much for the beginner training plan! The event was a blast, and I surprisingly completed/finished feeling strong. I was actually amazed that I was not tired during the run and I owe a lot of that to your plan. I am already browsing what other plans you have out there!
On week 2 of the training and loving it, definitely feeling an improvement and know that my goal will be reached by the end of the plan. Also had a couple of questions in the beginning like most people do when starting a new plan and my questions were answered instantly which was great
So Coach, the season is now done for me! I completed Outlaw X 70.3 on Sunday in a PB time of 5:13. My previous like for like was 5:36 in June 2019. So 2 years older and 23 minutes faster! Happy with that.
Was delighted to see what improvements your 24 week Inter Oly plan had earned me – was touch and go for a while to see if the race would go ahead – but man, when it did … I was not disappointed = 2 min PB on the swim, 14 PB on the bike and 5 mins on my run … felt strong the entire way (ok maybe not in the last 2km of the run … LOL)
Thank you so much for this breakthrough result … more to come next race season methinks! I will be in touch Coach Steve
